My medical company needs diagnosis codes to process a claim, I've given them D0383 and D9999 which relates to CPT code 70486 and 76377, however they need more info. The diagnosis code. Do you know what that is??

Also where can I find a list of dental codes and their medical code equivalent?

Thank you,
D

Hi guest!

D0383 - cone beam CT image capture with field of view of both jaws, with or without cranium
D9999 - unspecified adjunctive procedure, by report

70486 - Computed tomography, maxillofacial area; without contrast material
76377 - 3D rendering with interpretation and reporting of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, or other tomographic modality with image postprocessing under concurrent supervision; requiring image postprocessing on an independent workstation

The diagnosis code the medical insurer is looking for will depend on why the CT scan is being done.
For example, if the CT scan is being done due to something like jaw pain, Temporomandibular disorder, or atrophy (there are tons more options of course, it all depends on the patient's situation!), you may use one of the codes below for example:

R68.84 - Jaw pain
M26.61 - Adhesions and ankylosis of temporomandibular joint
M26.62 - Arthralgia of temporomandibular joint
M26.63 - Articular disc disorder of temporomandibular joint
M26.69 - Other specified disorders of temporomandibular joint
K08.21 - Minimal atrophy of the mandible
K08.22 - Moderate atrophy of the mandible
K08.23 - Severe atrophy of the mandible
K08.24 - Minimal atrophy of maxilla
K08.25 - Moderate atrophy of the maxilla
K08.26 - Severe atrophy of the maxilla

If the CT scan was taken for a different reason, let me know what it was and I can see if I can supply you with some coding options.

Some medical insurers will supply a list of medical/dental crosscode equivalents on their websites. Our company offers an online tool for purchase to help dental practice crosscode medical and dental codes called CrossCode online. I'm not aware of any free tools to do this!

Hope this helps, have a great day!
