Hi Guest!

D6010 - surgical placement of implant body: endosteal implant
can be crosscoded to:
21248 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); partial(3or less)
21249 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); complete (4 or more)

D2799
- provisional crown– further treatment or completion of diagnosis necessary prior to final impression
D6051 - interim abutment
D6190 - radiographic/surgical implant index, by report

The codes listed above do not have direct crosscodes we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can try the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure:
41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures

I cannot seem to locate D2429 - what is the description you have for that?

Hope this helps, have a great day!

Hi Guest!
D0220 - intraoral - periapical first radiographic image
can be cross coded to:
70300 - Radiologic examination, teeth; single view

D0470 - diagnostic casts
can be crosscoded to:
99070 - special supplies & materials
or
A4580 - cast supplies (e.g. plaster)

D6190 - radiographic/surgical implant index, by report
D6057 - custom fabricated abutment - includes placement
D6199- unspecified implant procedure, by report
D2999 - unspecified restorative procedure, by report

D6999 - unspecified fixed prosthodontic procedure, by report
D6058 - abutment supported porcelain/ceramic crown
D6095- repair implant abutment, by report

The codes listed above do not have direct crosscodes we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can try the CPT codes below and include a narrative report describing the procedure:

Hi Guest!

D2999 - unspecified restorative procedure, by report

The code listed above dowa not have a direct crosscode, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can use the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure:
41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures

Hope this helps!

Our patient fell in her bathroom and she cracked her front veneers. We temped the front teeth with bondings until everything healed up. Unfortunately she needed a RCT and after that we made her new veneers. Her dental insurance said she should put through her medical since it was an accident.
The codes are:
D3310
D0140
D2962
D2331
D2332
Can you convert these to medical codes?

Hi Guest!

No problem - although just a heads up, many medical insurers will specify in their coverage policies that they will only cover damage/trauma to "sound, natural teeth" as a result of an accident.

D0140
- limited oral evaluation - problem focused
Can be crosscoded to:
99201 - Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of a new patient, which requires these 3 key components: A problem focused history; A problem focused examination; Straightforward medical decision making. Counseling and/or coordination of care with other physicians, other qualified health care professionals, or agencies are provided consistent with the nature of the problem(s) and the patient's and/or family's needs. Usually, the presenting problem(s) are self limited or minor. Typically, 10 minutes are spent face-to-face with the patient and/or family.
or
99211 - Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient, that may not require the presence of a physician or other qualified health care professional. Usually, the presenting problem(s) are minimal. Typically, 5 minutes are spent performing or supervising these services.

D3310
- endodontic therapy anterior tooth (excluding final restoration)
D2962 - labial veneer (porcelain laminate) - laboratory
D2331 - resin-based composite - two surfaces, anterior
D2332 - resin-based composite - three surfaces, anterior

The codes listed above do not have a direct crosscode we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can use the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure:
41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures

And some diagnosis coding options:

K03.81 - Cracked tooth
S02.5XXA - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for closed fracture
S02.5XXB - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for open fracture
S03.2XXA - Dislocation of tooth, initial encounter
M26.34 - Vertical displacement of fully erupted tooth or teeth
M26.33 - Horizontal displacement of fully erupted tooth or teeth
K08.531 - Fractured dental restorative material with loss of material
K08.530 - Fractured dental restorative material without loss of material

And for the fall i'll need a few more details to offer diagnosis coding options. Did the patient simply slip on the floor, or in the shower? strike any objects on the way down?

As for the diagnosis coding options based on what you described:

S02.5XXA - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for closed fracture
S02.5XXB - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for open fracture
S03.2XXA - Dislocation of tooth, initial encounter
M26.34 - Vertical displacement of fully erupted tooth or teeth
M26.33 - Horizontal displacement of fully erupted tooth or teeth

W01.198A - Fall on same level from slipping, tripping and stumbling with subsequent striking against other object, initial encounter

Hope this helps!

Hi, I need urgent help submitting to my medical insurance CPT codes. My dentist gave me the dental codes but they need to be medically equivalent to medical CPT codes so they can cover. I have called so many dental offices and my medical insurance and nobody has a clue. I hope you can help me with this that way I can be covered due to extreme pain.

Hi Guest!

D0367 - Cone beam CT capture with interpretation with field of view of both jaws, with or without cranium

there is actually not currently a specific CPT code for CBCT……the closest CPT code is: “70486 - Computed tomography, maxillofacial area; without contrast material”. Many offices have been using this for some time for CBCT, however, some medical insurers are auditing that code when used for CBCT because the description does not specify “cone beam”.

So, “76497 - Unlisted computed tomography procedure (eg, diagnostic, interventional)” is an option to use (keep in mind you'll need to provide a narrative description for unlisted codes) We also see practices billing out for "76102 - Radiologic examination, complex motion (ie, hypercycloidal) body section (eg, mastoid polytomography), other than with urography; bilateral"

D6010 - surgical placement of implant body: endosteal implant
can be cross coded to:
21248 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); partial(3or less)
21249 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); complete (4 or more)

D6057 - custom fabricated abutment - includes placement

Hi Guest!

D0120 - periodic oral evaluation - established patient
can be crosscoded to:

99211 - Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient, that may not require the presence of a physician or other qualified health care professional. Usually, the presenting problem(s) are minimal. Typically, 5 minutes are spent performing or supervising these services.

99212 - Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient, which requires at least 2 of these 3 key components: A problem focused history; A problem focused examination; Straightforward medical decision making.

D1110 - prophylaxis - adult

Hello,

I was hoping you can translate the following dental code to medical codes. Thanks you so much.

D0383 - CT Image, both jaws
D0140 - Limited oral evaluation
D2335 - Resin-4 + w/incis angle-anterior

Thx

Hi Guest!

D0383 - Cone beam CT image capture with field of view of both jaws, with or without cranium

There is actually not currently a specific CPT code for Cone Beam CT (CBCT)……the closest CPT code is: “70486 - Computed tomography, maxillofacial area; without contrast material”. Some medical payers state in their policy that 70486 should be used for CBCT, for example, United Healthcare & Evicore state this in their radiology medical coverage policy. However, some medical insurers may perfer a different code when used for CBCT because the description of 70486 does not specify “cone beam”.

So, “76497 - Unlisted computed tomography procedure (eg, diagnostic, interventional)” is an option to use (keep in mind you'll need to provide a narrative description for unlisted codes)
We also see practices billing out for "76102 - Radiologic examination, complex motion (ie, hypercycloidal) body section (eg, mastoid polytomography), other than with urography; bilateral"

Usually, the presenting problem(s) are minimal. Typically, 5 minutes are spent performing or supervising these services.

D2335 - resin-based composite - four or more surfaces or involving incisal angle (anterior)

The code listed above does not have a direct crosscode we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services that do not have a specific CPT code), or you can use the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure:
41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures
